Drowning Ophelia

Drowning Ophelia, presented by Shakespeare Opera Theatre, is a play with music by Rachel Luann Strayer. In this surreal and beautiful show, Shakespeare’s famous character Ophelia has suddenly taken up residence in Jane’s bathtub, and is often found singing nonsensical songs about death and valentines. As Jane tries to enjoy carefully curated fantasy dates with an actor named Edmund, Ophelia constantly interrupts with her hard-to-ignore operatic singing, bringing up dark memories of Jane’s past and her brother. A dark comedy performed in one act about the long-term consequences of childhood abuse, this play serves as a love letter to those who have suffered.
